I am indeed grateful to the Madhya Pradesh Economic Association for giving me the opportunity to serve the association as managing Editor of MPEA Journal .  I  also wish to announce that we would also have our e-journal very soon. The present journal of MPEA has primarily focused on the following two important themes.

1. Digitalization of Indian Economy:

In the era of globalization, with quick revolutionary technological changes, now-a-days, every sorts of information can be converted into a digital (computer-readable) format. Being a global concept, digitization has prominent impact on economic growth and employment of any nation. Not only developed nations but also developing economies are reaping the benefits for digitization in terms of economic growth and employment. Emergence of digitization followed by explosion of e-commerce has profound impact on the productivity and socio economic standard of the society. Since, Indian economy has seen unprecedented growth of e-commerce in recent years, increasing internet penetration, rapid technology adoption, and high sale of electronic gadgets like smartphones, tablets, etc., have led to attract online customer base. Digitization has brought social transformation in the life of common Indians. The “Digital India” is a revolutionary initiative taken by Government of India which is playing a pivot role in promoting economic and social growth for uplifting the society at large. The Digital India initiatives could boost GDP up to $1 trillion by 2025. It is expected to influence the macro-economic parameters such as GDP growth, employment generation, labour productivity, revenue generation, etc.The process of digitalization has become more revolutionary especially after demonetization due to cash crunch. Moreover, Digital platforms can also help farmers in updating the knowledge on various grounds such as know-how (crop choice, seed variety), context (weather, plant protection, cultivation best practices) and market information (market prices, market demand, logistics). In order to know the real impact of digitalization on Indian Economy, research articles are invited on the following sub-themes for discussion during the annual conference of Madhya Pradesh Economic association.

2. Issues of Social Sector in Madhya Pradesh:

Madhya Pradesh, popularly known as “Heart of India” due to its central location has the most unique mix of ethnic groups & tribes, castes & communities. The State have many resources like Mining, forest, Water, etc. yet it is facing many challenges in social development like Education, Women and Child health, Poverty, Gender based discrimination and related socio-economic disparities.Census of 2011 revealed that 72.37% of population resides in rural area with widening Rural- Urban gap. This mismatch causes migration and overcrowding in the cities beyond their capacity. Moreover, gender based discrimination has also been a very crucial social issue in Madhya Pradesh economy, as the sex ratio is 931 females per 1000 males. Though, Madhya Pradesh has a marvelous growth trajectory in terms of economic growth, primarily out of agriculture sector, this much touted double digit agricultural growth has failed in uplifting the poor and reaching to the bottom strata of the society comprehensively. The growth without any social development and trickledown effect could not ensure benefits to the marginalized group of the society. On one side, it has registered mounted agricultural production, whereas on the other side, the extent of malnutrition among tribal children is alarming and bothersome issue. Besides this, poverty has been rearing its ugly heads in the State of Madhya Pradesh despite various efforts of government. In order to gauge and discuss these social issues in Madhya Pradesh, research articles are invited on the following sub-themes for discussion during the annual conference of Madhya Pradesh Economic association.

  • Multi-dimensional Poverty in Madhya Pradesh
  • Socio-economic disparities in Madhya Pradesh
  • Employment Opportunities and Social Development
  • Female work participation and Gender discrimination in Madhya Pradesh
  • Rural Urban Gap in Madhya Pradesh
  • Malnutrition and Health issues of Madhya Pradesh Economy
  • Social Infrastructure in the State
  • Government Policy and Social sector Development in Madhya Pradesh

The research paper and abstract should be submitted to Prof. Kanhaiya Ahuja, Managing Editor of the Journal of Madhya Pradesh Economic Association latest by 20 January, 2019 by email mpea.editor@gmail.com.  The papers and/or abstracts will be published in the journal on recommendation of the editorial board.
